The Cabinet Visits the Royal Armouries

ICONIC CABINET MEETING HELD AT SAVILES HALL

GORDON Brown brought his entire Cabinet to Leeds in a massive show of support for the city and the region. The Central Office of Information chose SAVILES Hall for ‘Question the Cabinet’ on the basis of its prestige, size and flexibility.

The Prime Minister said “he was bringing his cabinet to the heart of Yorkshire”.

He met with senior ministers for roundtable discussions in Saviles Hall Leeds’ Largest, Newest Venue where members of the public were able to ask the PM questions about the economy.

This was a remarkable event for Royal Armouries (International) plc as Gordon Brown then went on from SAVILES across the square to the Royal Armouries Museum in the afternoon to chair a historic meeting of the cabinet in the Wellington Suite. This was only the second time such a meeting of the government's most senior ministers has taken place outside London since the Second World War.

Gary Verity, Yorkshire Tourist Board CEO stated “It is a great honour for the region to have hosted this momentous visit. The teams at SAVILES Hall and the Royal Armouries Museum are experts in delivering conferences and events. The level of service excellence they offer, matched with a visit that saw cabinet members travelling to strategic points across the region, is sure to have left the ministers with an extremely positive impression of Yorkshire.”

Over the past three months SAVILES Hall has hosted several iconic moments such as the Governor of the Bank of England Mervyn King delivering his speech which was televised across the World. Other notable celebratories include Terry Wogan who attended a Children In Need Charity event organised by ASDA, Darren Gough the Cricketing legend who hosted his testimonial dinner at SAVILES Hall and self-made millionaire Theo Paphitis from Dragons Den who launched a unique degree on behalf of the University of Huddersfield.

SAVILES Hall is gaining a reputation for being the new hall of fame - Managing Director of RAI James V Vincent said “We are delighted and honoured to have delivered the government’s event here in Leeds as we have for a host of other high profile events”

Leeds and Yorkshire have become strong contenders winning International business such as the Bollywood celebrations. And why ever not?…Both Royal Armouries Museum and SAVILES Hall have an international airport within 25 minutes and all other transport is either on the door step or within 5 minutes walk. Car parking for 1650, hotel bedrooms for over 7,000 delegate members located in the city of Leeds and award winning chefs who deliver exceptional food all add to the attraction and critical mass of these venues for business tourism.

Chris O Boyle Chairman of RAI said “We are attracting World-wide enquiries for what we believe is a World-class venue with World-class service”
